Snap Circuits Program

Snap Circuits are educational toys that allow children to safely and easily build and experiment with electronic circuits. Instead of requiring soldering or complex wiring, the components have snaps that connect together on a plastic grid. This engaging, hands-on approach provides numerous learning benefits for children in a wide range of age groups.

Benefits for STEM and foundational skills

Teaches core STEM concepts:
Snap Circuits teach fundamental concepts in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM). Children gain a solid understanding of how circuits work, including series and parallel connections, electricity and magnetism, and the functions of various electronic components.

Encourages creative problem-solving:
Children can build hundreds of projects from the included manuals, but the modular nature of the kits also encourages independent experimentation. As they design their own circuits and test different arrangements, they develop systematic problem-solving, logical thinking, and metacognition—the process of applying learned knowledge to higher-level thinking.

Develops fine motor skills:
The act of snapping the components onto the board and connecting them requires precise hand-eye coordination. This helps to improve fine motor skills, which are important for tasks like writing and using tools later in life.

Promotes spatial awareness and reading comprehension:
Following the illustrated, colour-coded diagrams in the instruction manuals helps build spatial and shape awareness. Children also gain experience in understanding symbolic and abstract representations as they learn to read basic electronics schematics.

Offers a safe, low-risk environment:
The use of snap-together parts eliminates the need for soldering or tools and uses low-voltage batteries. A patented safety device prevents short circuits and makes experimenting with electronics much safer for children.
