Hello
My name is Emily, I am 33 years of age and I'm a mother of two awesome homeschooling children. I have 15 years experience in photography. My skills are focused in creative arts and media, bringing with me knowledge of art and design, photography and photo editing, adobe photoshop and related programs. I have a passion for entrepreneurship, history, art and media literacy.
About Me
I was born and raised in Scarborough, Ontario in the 90's. My family has lived in Scarborough for multiple generations, making me a proud Scarberian. Having grown up here, going to the local schools, playing in the parks, and living in different neighbourhoods has made me well-versed and familiar with the city and all the great things it has to offer.
I went to a business and technical institute for highschool. There I was awarded for social sciences, and in my junior years was made a senior level peer-mediator through our guidance counselling program, resolving conflicts amongst students and teachers alike. I focused on trades, art, food restaurant services and hospitality.
After highschool I went on to become a freelance photographer. I re-branded my photography business in 2017, and became a sole-proprietor. I'm self-taught in my field and considered an autodidact, I enjoy learning new skills and subjects on my own. I've since put my photography on hold and spent the past 4 years dedicated to homeschooling and caring for my children, as a stay-at-home mom.
When my children first started attending the public school system, this quickly presented difficulties, especially when we learned that our daughter was on the autism spectrum and shortly there after it became apparent that this was not benefiting the well being of our child. When we began observing a decline in both of our children's work and attitude towards school, we decided to start the home school journey full time with no plan of re-entering the public education system.
Since homeschooling, our autistic non-verbal child now speaks all the time and more importantly she can read and write, which is a skill she was unable to attain while in the public school system. Our days are no longer filled with anxiety, doubt, worry or uncertainty. Having a child on the spectrum has put me in this for the long haul and as a result I want to help share the great things we've learned and accomplished, and all the knowledge picked up along the way in our homeschooling journey so other parents don't feel lost and at their wits end, as I once did.
